On 24.06.2021, Pfotenpiloten ambassador Hannah Reuter and guide dog Daika travelled to Salzgitter to present the “Assistance Dog Friendly Municipality” concept to the city’s Disability Advisory Board.

Feeling welcome in Salzgitter was not difficult at all: in a relaxed, constructive atmosphere of conversation, the assistance dog team met with open ears, and a lot of commitment.

Because there is still little knowledge about the animal aids and their access rights, assistance dogs are everywhere denied access to public facilities, shops or doctors’ surgeries with reference to a general ban on dogs.

The organisation Pfotenpiloten e.V. is therefore running the access campaign “Assistance Dog Welcome” with the support of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS).

On the initiative of Advisory Council Chairman Hans-Werner Eisfeld, the city is now setting out to implement the “Assistance Dog Friendly Municipality” concept in Salzgitter and to award municipal facilities with the “Assistance Dog Welcome” sticker.

This municipality is in the process of declaring itself assistance dog friendly.

The “Assistance Dog Welcome” campaign was made possible by funding from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) and the Aktion Mensch.
