As we sit in the hotel having our morning coffee, Radio Hellweg has a recurring theme on this uncomfortably cold August morning of 17.8. 2021 – assistance dogs and our meeting with the mayor of Warstein at noon.
Already on the drive from Soest to Warstein we discovered the banners of the Pfotenpiloten at the roadside. What a nice feeling.
Until a few days ago, when I thought of Warstein I thought mainly of… yes, beer. But now I think first of an impressively barrier-free town hall and a very warm mayor.
Dr. Schöne, the Warsteiner town priest, first invited us in, because the wind was whistling outside, stirring up the first leaves even as we were having breakfast. Dr Schöne offered us refreshments and had actually added a nibble for our assistance dogs. Of course, we are always happy when someone thinks of our team partners.
When Benji, our mascot, appeared on the steps of the town hall, the two immediately took a liking to each other. Roswitha Warda, Dr Schöne and Benji jointly labelled Warstein Town Hall as assistance dog friendly.
Afterwards we got into conversation with the people who had made the extra journey to the town hall forecourt.
Hannah Löseke from the Wartseiner Anzeiger interviewed us and wrote a full-page article.
Representing the Warsteiner tradespeople, we then visited the Wieskemper wine house. It takes very well-behaved dogs to ensure that nothing of the precious drops gets broken in the little shop. No problem for our assistance dogs.
To ensure that all customers know in future that assistance dogs are allowed, the sticker “Assistance dogs welcome” has been attached.
Warstein will be remembered as a welcoming place despite the unpleasant weather.
