Kaufbeuren – assistance dog friendly!

Confirmation of an assistance dog friendly municipality by the Mayor of Kaufbeuren, Stefan Bosse:

The well-being of all our citizens is of paramount importance to me as a
mayor and for us as a municipality in the first place. Thereby we feel
a special duty of care towards people who, due to a medical condition or disability, have
or disability face great challenges.
That is why we would like to help - wherever possible - to make their everyday lives easier.
We are very happy to participate in the campaign "Assistance Dog Welcome". Assistance dogs are
specially trained to provide long-term support to people with chronic impairments. They
help in everyday life, provide safety and enable those affected to lead a more mobile life. Therefore
they must also have access to all public areas - even where dogs are not normally
allowed. However, assistance dog owners are actually denied access with their
"dog aid".
We want to change this and therefore support the campaign to increase the access rights
of assistance dogs. Our commitment fits seamlessly into our ongoing endeavour to achieve an
inclusive community. Already in 2007, we started working through the specially founded municipal department of
Kaufbeuren-aktiv working on continuous improvements in the areas of youth, education, integration, democracy
and tolerance. Being an "Assistance Dog Friendly Municipality" is a new essential piece of the puzzle for us
on this path.
